Soccer- COVID-19 Virus update

GCKA Soccer Families -

In response to concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to ensure the health and safety of all GCKA families, and the community as a whole, we are cancelling all GCKA affiliated soccer activities through at least April 3rd. With schools and most other gatherings being cancelled in order to limit the spread of the virus, we do not feel like we should undermine those efforts by bringing groups of people together. We will continue to monitor information and advice from government agencies and other governing bodies and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

What does this mean for upcoming events?
  • Travel and MSSA/HSSA Soccer practices - No practices until tentatively April 4th.
  • Travel and MSSA/HSSA Soccer games - Any games scheduled on, or before, April 3rd will need to be cancelled. Games on April 4th and later will stay scheduled, but will be evaluated as more information is made public.
  • Travel Soccer tournaments - Teams will not be participating in any tournaments prior to April 4th. We are guessing that the majority of these tournaments will be following the guidance of US Youth Soccer and cancel their tournaments, but no announcements have been made yet that we are aware of. We will do our best to work with those tournaments to get at least partial refunds or work on other accommodations.
  • Rec Soccer practices - Will tentatively start on April 6th
  • Rec coaches meeting - Cancelled. Information will be sent out to coaches by March 22nd and they can begin contacting parents that week.
  • Rec Soccer games - Still expected to begin on April 19th

At this time, we are still planning on playing the spring season. If there are further delays or cancellations, we will provide information about refunds at that time.

We will do our best to provide additional information as things change and more information is available. Until then, please bear with us as we try to navigate this very difficult and fluid situation.

Thank you,
Adam Austin
GCKA Soccer Commissioner
